Oriental Rugs of Bath is an independent rug and textile dealer, based in the heart of the West Country, specialising in hand-woven oriental finery; ethically produced and fairly traded.
We selectively source our rugs from all over the Middle and Far East: Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, India, China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. All are handmade from entirely natural fibres and use mostly vegetable dyes, following centuries-old traditions and designs.
Prices range from £50 to £10,000, but not one could be considered too expensive - we challenge you to find a better deal for authentic goods of matching quality.
An oriental rug is woven by hand on a loom, with warps, wefts, and pile made mainly of natural fibres like wool, cotton, and silk. The pile consists of hand-spun or machine-spun strings of yarn, which are knotted by hand, into the warp and weft foundation.
The traditional dyes used in handmade rugs from the Orient are obtained from natural sources. The yarns are immersed in the dyes, then fixed with mordants and left to dry in the natural air and sunlight.
The finished products are stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces, ready and waiting to compliment any room as our customers can attest to.
And it’s not only rugs. All of our furniture and furnishings make use of the same handmade fabrics. This goes for our clothing and accessories too: vibrant, authentic and delightful: from places where craftsmanship has a tradition, going back thousands of years to the days of the original silk road.
