The Balearic Island of Mallorca has long been considered a major centre for yachting in the Mediterranean and this year more superyachts have been seen in Mallorca's marinas and waters than ever before. According to the Balearic Nautical Association there has been a 50% increase in the number of yachts over 30 metres coming into Balearic waters.
Some of the most famous and largest privately-owned yachts in the world spotted in in the past few weeks include; “Yas” (141 metres) owned by Hamdan bin Zayer al Hahyan, the first minister of the Arab Emirates and one of the largest privately owned yachts in the world; “Ocean Victory” (140 metres) owned by Russian, Victor Rashnikov; “Palladium” (90 metres) owned by Mikhail Prokhorov and classic yachts such as “Leander G” (75 metres) owned by Vice Admiral, Sir Donald Gosling KCVO.
Around Mallorca's 554 km of coastline there are 47 ports and marinas. In Palma alone, there are 10 marinas with approximately 3,506 moorings a total of approximately 968 of those moorings serve yachts over 15 metres (421 are over 15 metres, 309 are over 20 metres and 238 are over 24 metres).
