Landscape at Forefront of Design at Acton Gardens

19.09.16

With mounting evidence highlighting that access to green and open spaces can have a strong positive effect on an individual's happiness, and can even reduce stress*, latest statistics from estate agents Marsh and Parsons show that disappointingly under a third of London properties have a balcony, terrace or communal garden. Bucking this trend is Countryside and L&Q's Acton Gardens' development in W3, which has landscape and outdoor space at the forefront of the design of its latest phase. At West Park Terrace, each home boasts an outdoor area, with large terraces for überhaus penthouses, balconies for the apartments and patio gardens for the ground and first floor überhaus. Additionally, all residents of West Park Quarter will have access to communal courtyard and easy access to the new West Park.

West Park Terrace is a modern collection of 54 one, two and three bedroom apartments, überhaus apartments and überhaus penthouses. Designed by PCKO Architects, cascading green balconies form the basis for West Park Terrace's striking design and aim to integrate the homes ranging over nine storeys and three blocks with neighbouring West Park, which will be complete in summer 2017 and include a children's playground.

WaiLun Ho, Director at PCKO, comments: “Our concept was to achieve an attractive building form to address the key frontage of a new park without creating a wall or barrier between the park and an existing shared courtyard of a previous phase. Instead we looked to achieve a more visually permeable building, with articulation that would allow more lightness, transparency and connection through the building form. The main blocks can be read as three distinct park frontage villa blocks, with robust masonry and large, full height windows, which have echoes of a more recognisable vernacular architecture of the grand Georgian or Victorian townhouses and mansion blocks that line the parks of London.”

WaiLun continues: “Balconies and roof terraces creating a visually striking vertical landscape as part of our design to go 'beyond the park' and compliment Acton Gardens' wider landscape strategy. The high level terraced gardens between the three villa blocks also visually link between the new park and architectural design.”

Green open space plays a vital role at Acton Gardens, with tree lined streets designed around a series of parks, squares and communal gardens, featuring extensive landscaping, play areas and allotments. In a nod to the traditional appeal of London's parks and squares, the outdoor spaces are designed to create social, lively places for people to relax and enjoy, where pedestrians have priority and community interaction is encouraged. Nearby, South Acton Park provides a great urban park with mature trees lining the footpaths and a play area for children. The plans also include a proposed new bus route and street network linking with the surrounding area, as well as a car club for residents use.

Acton Gardens is transforming the former 52 acre South Acton Estate into a new urban village. It is reconnecting the estate to the wider neighbourhood, with more than 2,500 new homes set within traditional tree-lined streets, and is increasingly providing a sense of place and community for residents.

Andrew Loveday, Sales Director at Countryside comments: “We have designed the homes at West Park Terrace to ensure that they go beyond the park. We have taken the best elements of the 19th century park-side mansion block style and given it a modern twist with striking green balconies, which complement this development's modern urban setting. This phase's proximity to West Park will not only prove popular with families who appreciate the outdoor space for children to play in, but young professionals looking for a happy balance of green space and city living.”

With excellent transport connections, Acton Gardens is located within a short walk of Acton Town underground station providing Piccadilly and District Line services into the West End and the City.  It is also close to Acton main line station, which will benefit from becoming a station on the Crossrail line when it opens in 2019.

Nearby Chiswick High Street offers an exciting range of designer boutiques, good pubs and restaurants, whilst the Westfield regional shopping centre at White City is only 20 minutes away by tube. For sports enthusiasts, golf is available at Old Deer Park, pitch and putt at Gunnersbury Park and tennis in Acton Park.

West Park Terrace apartments are available from £435,000. Help to Buy is also available on a selection of these properties. For further sales information please visit www.actongardens.co.uk or call 020 8993 6923.
